The eel restaurant, “Kawatei”

In Ogaki, it was common to eat crucian carp in a New year and a festival. Ogaki is the land without sea, so river fish is valuable as a protein source. 川貞 ”Kawatei” was founded as a river fish specialty shop in 1913. With the transition of the era after that, river fish was shifted to eel and eel has been loved for over 100 years.

There are various menu such as eel bowl, Hitsumabushi, set meals, etc. These are definitely excellent meals. Exquisite spicy smell make us hungry.

 

 

Because Ogaki is located in the center just separating the east and west of Japan, the east culture and the west culture mix in various scenes. Eel is known for its different recipes in the east and west, but both cultures can be seen in Ogaki. Kawada’s way of grilling the eel is the west style. Kawatei grills the eel without steaming. A wonderful Japanese garden that you can watch from the spacious restaurant. The change of the scenery according to the season is also fun.
